KYC & AML Policy
Lethbridge Casino is committed to preventing money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud and underage gambling. This Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Policy explains how we verify our players, monitor activity and meet our obligations under Canadian law, including the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act and related regulations.
1. Why We Verify
Verification protects you, other players and our business. It allows us to:
- Confirm that every player is 19 or older.
- Confirm that you are who you say you are and that your account has not been opened in someone else's name.
- Confirm that you are located where our service is permitted.
- Prevent fraud, identity theft and the use of stolen payment methods.
- Stop our service from being used to launder money or finance terrorism.
- Pay your withdrawals safely to the right person.
2. Identity and Age Verification
We carry out KYC and geolocation checks before any deposit. In many cases we can verify your details electronically using trusted data sources. If we cannot, or if further checks are needed, we will ask for documents. These may include:
- Proof of identity: a valid, government-issued photo ID such as a passport, driver's licence or provincial identification card.
- Proof of address: a recent utility bill, bank statement or government letter showing your name and residential address, usually dated within the last three months.
- Proof of payment method: for example, a photo of your card with the middle digits and security code covered, or a screenshot of your e-wallet or online banking account showing your name.
- A selfie or live check to match you with your ID document, where needed.
Documents must be clear, in colour, complete and unaltered. We will tell you by email exactly what we need and how to send it securely.
3. Source of Funds and Source of Wealth
Where deposits are large, frequent or unusual for your account, or where required by law, we may ask you to explain where your money comes from. We may request:
- Recent payslips or employment records.
- Bank statements.
- Records of savings, investments, an inheritance or the sale of property.
- Business accounts or tax documents for self-employed players.
These checks are routine and part of our legal duties. They also help us spot possible signs of gambling harm, such as spending that is not affordable.
4. Ongoing Monitoring
Verification is not a one-time step. We monitor accounts and transactions on an ongoing basis to identify activity that may be suspicious, including:
- Deposits followed by withdrawals with little or no play.
- Use of several payment methods or methods in other people's names.
- Sudden changes in deposit size or frequency.
- Connections between accounts that suggest shared ownership or collusion.
- Attempts to access the service from outside permitted locations.
We may ask you to update your documents or information at any time, for example when an ID expires or your details change.
5. Politically Exposed Persons and Sanctions Screening
We screen players against sanctions lists and lists of politically exposed persons (PEPs), heads of international organizations, and their family members and close associates. If you are identified as a PEP, we may apply enhanced checks, including source of wealth verification and senior management review, before allowing or continuing play. We do not provide services to anyone subject to Canadian or applicable international sanctions.
6. Record Keeping and Reporting
We keep records of identity verification, transactions and related communications for the period required by Canadian law, including after your account is closed. Where required, we report certain transactions to the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) and other competent authorities. These include large cash or virtual currency transactions, large casino disbursements and transactions we have reasonable grounds to suspect relate to money laundering or terrorist financing. By law, we may not be able to tell you that a report has been made.
7. Payment Rules
- All transactions are in Canadian dollars (CAD).
- You may only use payment methods registered in your own name.
- Withdrawals are normally returned to the method used to deposit, where that method supports withdrawals.
- Withdrawals are limited to C$10,000 per day.
- We do not accept third-party deposits or make payments to third parties.
8. If Checks Are Not Passed
If you do not provide the information we request, if documents cannot be verified, or if we have reasonable grounds for concern, we may:
- Restrict deposits, play or withdrawals until checks are complete.
- Decline or reverse transactions.
- Void bonuses and related winnings obtained in breach of our terms.
- Close your account.
- Report the matter to the appropriate authorities where the law requires.
Where an account is closed because a player is underage, we follow the steps in our Underage Gambling Policy.
9. Your Information
Documents and information collected for verification are stored securely and used only for the purposes described in this policy and our Privacy Policy.
